Queen of Peace

Standard

“She slept with wolves without fear,
For the wolves knew a lion was among them.”

I am a queen of peace
I know no other way
When it seemed the scream would never cease
In my mind, I’d hide and play

Mama, when I’d see that hatred in your eyes
I found refuge in my tree
My only comfort from your lies
And so…
I became the love that I had to seek

I am stronger than you
For you harbor so much hate
I know your words are not my truth
A lover and a dreamer, that is my fate

I am a queen of peace
I know no other way
So I shed you, like Autumn’s dead leaves
And spring to life, like the flowers in May.

Alice and The White Rabbit

Standard

2015-02-28 14.57.19
One night, as I slept, I began to dream
That I was Alice in a field of green
And there you were, running by
With your pocket watch, jacket, and tie
I waved to you, “hey, wait for me!”
You rushed on, Can’t wait, I’m late! I can’t miss tea!”
“But I’d like to come along,” I said to you
“Then hurry! Don’t lapse! You’ll be left behind if you do.”
So I followed behind you as fast as I could
Until we reached a thorny black wood.
You gave it no thought as you raced on by
But the thorns tore my clothes and dug in my thigh.
“Hey! Wait for me, I’ve been caught!”
“I have no time to wait! You’ll have to keep up, like it or not!”
I couldn’t catch up so you ran on ahead.
I had nowhere to rest so the thorns were my bed.
Slowly, I freed myself and mended my wound,
And then you came back saying, “time to go, very soon.”
“You must keep up this time.” You began to scold.
“I will try,” I said. “Can you give me something to hold?”
You gave me the tail of your jacket to grasp
As faster and faster the world flew past.
I held on with all my might
Dragging the ground, Eyes closed tight
I slammed into trees
And skinned both my knees
“Can you slow down? I’m losing my hold.”
“I can’t stop here! I’m late and it’s cold!”
Unable to grip, I finally let go
A small, sad figure, lying in the snow.
Then opened my eyes and saw you there
My gaze meeting your resentful stare.
“You should have kept up! Why’d you let go?”
“Now look at you, lazing in snow!”
All I could say to meet your demand
“perhaps, if you’d paused to give me your hand?”

The Healing Allure of Nature

Standard

Lying in the emerald grasses
My favorite place to be
Nature whispers as she passes
“Throw off sadness and dance with me”

She carries the scent of water and earth
Trailing silver clouds on her cloak
The birds of the air echo her mirth
Wrapping me with healing as she spoke

The chimes of the clock tower swept over my face
Like the phoenix that I am, I begin to rise
Floating on the wondrous symphony of this place
Ash no more, as I soar through the skies.

This is a recomposition of one of my favorite composers Antonio Vivaldi. It’s named Summer but spotify notified me that I always listen to it in the fall. It must speak of Autumn to me. enjoy.

That Stirring Night

Standard

“She was never crazy
She just didn’t let her heart
Settle in a cage.
For it’s the horrors
In her heart
Which cause the flames in ours.
And she was always willing to burn
For everything she has ever loved.”

You asked
“What are your thoughts”
As I was lying in the grass
I looked upon stars flying in the night
I didn’t answer
For my sacred thoughts are my own
I don’t give them freely
Besides
You’d never understand
The monster
Stirring inside of me
This restless rage
I hide from you
This desire
To be everywhere
Do everything
It oozes
Seeps
From green eyes
And ivory pores
So I watch the stars
And say nothing
As it requires all my strength
To rein myself in
And pack myself nicely inside
The box that better suits you
You won’t see me
You never do.

Caress my Mind

Standard

“The night was meant
For people like us.
For people who use it to get away.
For people who see themselves in
The city lights
And for those who lose themselves
In the long walks home.

The night is where the gentle madness is,
My friend,
And that is where people
Like us belong.”

You, my dear
caress
My mind
In a way that is
profoundly
More sensual
Than my body
Has ever been touched

Ever so slowly
You draw me into
Your world
Binding with
Words
This cageless
Wild mind
Never taking for granted
The surrender.

Seventeen

Standard

Those long summer days
When I was seventeen
Sun kissed skin
On the lake
Unbuttoned life vest
Bikini underneath
The power and thrum
Of the jet ski
Between my knees

You would watch
From the shore
As I’d race
Shooting straight across the water
Then a jerk to the left
And I’d spin into a 180
Sending a spray of water
Into the air
The freedom of it
As I’d giggle
And race out again
I always had a need
For risk
And speed

Oh, those late summer days
All of us piled into the back
Of an old station wagon
Singing along to Weezer
And U2
“Where the Streets have no Name”
That was our theme song
As we raced along
Those winding mountain roads
We had trails to climb
And waterfalls to slide

Then there were those fall days
Alone on the back deck
I’d watch the evening light
Play on the leaves
Of my favorite tree
I’d blow him a kiss
As I skipped down the steps
And waltzed toward my bike
Adventure and the night
Always called to me
So I’d follow the sunset
Toward that ancient church yard
Where I wondered among the stones
Reading the stories of their past
All the while
I’d be spinning my own
Dreams
And stories
Of all that I’d be
Even then
Innocent as I was
The moon was my lover
And still he beckons
To the tides of my spirit
“Come and twirl with me, Leah.”
