Waltz With Me

Standard

“You see, I want a lot.
Maybe I want it all:
the darkness of each endless fall,
the shimmering light of each ascent.
So many are alive who don’t seem to care.
Casual, easy, they move in the world
as though untouched.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You Jupiter, come waltz with me
Let’s leave them all behind
We’ll seek the spinning intensity
That lingers for us to find
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

“She who reconciles the ill-matched threads
of her life, and weaves them gratefully
into a single cloth —
it’s she who drives the loudmouths from the hall
and clears it for a different celebration
where the one guest is you.
In the softness of evening
it’s you she receives.
You are the partner of her loneliness,
the unspeaking center of her monologues.
With each disclosure you encompass more
and she stretches beyond what limits her,
to hold you.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yes, come with me my dear
I’ll smooth the scars away
Kiss your pain, banish your fear
Only, promise me you’ll stay.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

L’ianə and The Dragon Path (I)

Standard

Nothing Gold Can Stay

L’ianə stands quietly in the shade of an old forest sentinel
Music winds through the dark wood
She is the one it seeks
Finding her
It’s tendrils enfold her in a golden harmony
And tug her toward destiny

Like a siren song
Dragon-folk are calling her…
So she follows Chygon Rukesyaer
Down the dragon path

He has gone a little ahead of her
She must hurry to catch up
She’s stopped a moment to take it all in
Her world, once so small
Had been in the care and service of others
Now her world is fathomless and unknown

Like a siren song
Dragon-folk are calling her…
So she follows Chygon Rukesyaer
Down the dragon path

All is new again, like a babe
Her bewildered gaze falls on path and tree
Even the wind and sky are strangers
Panic begins to rise
Removing her hand from the tree
She takes…

L’ianə and the Dragon Path (II)

Standard

Nothing Gold Can Stay

In the darkness L’ianə watches Chygon. After placing the wood and tinder it only takes a motion of his fingers to start the fire. The first time L’ianə had observed him doing this she’d been terrified by his almost careless use of magic. Magic had been forbidden in her village and punishable by death. L’ianə knew this only too well. She’d been barefoot, hungry, and cold the night she’d watched her mother burn to death. A memory of her beautiful mother stands before her in the flames of his camp fire. Yes, she’d been the most beautiful woman in the village with eyes so green they almost glowed and white gold hair that had shown as a halo around her heart shaped face. She’d been gifted in the art of healing and had taught L’ianə all she knew. Her gifts hadn’t been enough to save her when her rejection of…

There was a Time before the Grey- A poem inspired by Robert Frost

Standard

Nothing Gold Can Stay

12429500333_14bd834612_b

There was a time before the grey
Maybe it was blue
Like the sky on that bright spring day
warmed by the sun, I was lying next to you

There was a time before the grey
Maybe it was green
Like the fields where we played
Spinning stories of all the places we’d see

There was a time before the grey
It must have been gold
Too fragile a color to stay
Time has a way of making things cold

There was a time before the grey
It was blue and green and gold
The brilliant colors of youth, destined to decay
But in wistful memory we never grow old.

Today, I am not…

Standard

Nothing Gold Can Stay

I am not the calm of a spring day
I am the scorching summer thunder
I am not the bird song of may
I am the lightning skies asunder

Don’t ask that I always be your smiling girl
It will only cause you pain
Don’t dress me in muslin and pin curl
I’ll just ruin them in the rain

Allow me to spin in the hurricane of my mind
Don’t hinder the wild flame
Yes, I am still your little one, good and kind
yet, I am also the wild thing, never to be tamed.

How to Describe?

Standard

Just edited this. I think it flows much better now.

Nothing Gold Can Stay

My mind is a forest, Fathomless as the sea
It’s depths a mystery even to me

With the heart of a wolf yet untamed
A wild thing, fierce…unclaimed

A soul of rushing rivers and blinding wind
The power of lightning in this body of sin

How to describe myself to you
I’m as sweet as the lily crested in dew

Ah, but do not mistake my sweet for soft
I can be cooler than mountain frost.

A passion to rival the sun’s heated core
A spirit with wings, such pleasure to soar!

I’m the tree with her branches held high in praise
I’m the song in a sunset wrapped in pink rays

I’m all these or none, that’s up to you
I’m just me and I have nothing to prove.
