I Will Love You

Standard

“I’ll throw
My voice
into
The stars
And maybe
The echo of
my words
Will be written
for you
In the clouds
By sunrise.
All I am trying to say is:
I will love you
Through the darkness.”

“Do you love me?”
He asked
With breath held tight

Oh my darling Jupiter
I have always loved you
As Persephone loves the earth

Do you recall
Those moments
Between the breath of creation

When we floated amongst the stars?
I said to you
I’ll love you through all our lives
And in the darkness too.

Blood Moon

Standard

“I am the dark
And I am the light.
I am the moon
And I am the starless
Night sky.
Fall in love with
All that I am
Or please;
Do not fall
In love with me
At all.”

The moon is red tonight
Do you see it?

Cradled

Heavy and full
Like this soul

That I conceal

Within these folds of silk
And breath

And so

I float like the moon
On a throne of velvet light

Crowned

With a veil of stars
And kissed by the night.

A Creature of Flight

Standard

“She was broken from moment to moment, watching her world collide she felt lost inside herself. She fell apart for a passion that flamed beneath her. She waited and died a hundred times, it dripped from her pores. The moment she let go, she soared over the stillness like the star she was born to be.”

And I was a creature of flight
Dancer in realms of air
Beloved of clouds and light
Silken feathers, golden and fair

And I was a creature both violent and free
Hurricane breath with tsunami eyes
Daughter of the tempest breeze
Rainbow phoenix in blazing skies

And I was a creature of the stars
Infinitesimal child of night
Pulled along the dust trails of Mars
For all was beautiful within my sight.

Patchwork Phoenix

Standard

“She was made of all complicated things,
But she always had a simplicity
In the way that she laughed.
And that is all she ever wanted,
For someone to understand her
While she was out making sense of her soul
And the handful of flowers
Blooming from the top of her skull.”

Brilliant sunrise breaking through
The shadow of fear in my mind
Tangled thoughts have been renewed
I think I’ll explore what’s left to find

I suppose I will gather my scattered parts
With a thread of many colors I’ll begin to sew
After surveying the fields of my broken heart
My colorful patches will brightly show

Reds, golds, greens and paisley too
I’ll be a patchwork phoenix on the rise
From the ashes I’m made new
See the birth of spring within my eyes

No longer enslaved to fear and shame
Though the journey will be long
I have been sanctified through pain
Named weary no more, you may call me strong.

Do Not Touch Me Softly

Standard

“Never could
I
breath love
If I did not
First learn
To inhale
A little bit
Of chaos”

You don’t understand
My love
That in my mind
Is a restless
Chaotic…
Furious beast

A beast that desires
To be everyone…
Do everything
I must consume the world
Through all my senses
And embrace both pleasure and pain

So do not touch me softly
A light caress
Will send me spinning…
Crashing…into the void
Please, hold me firmly
Bind me with the press
Of your skin to mine.

Infinite

Standard

“Do you remember still the falling stars
that like swift horses through the heavens raced
and suddenly leaped across the hurdles
of our wishes–do you recall?”

Oh! There you are!
Flowing with the night
Under the same star
Burning in our sight

An August harvest moon
Hangs heavy in a gown of coal
As cicadas hum and croon
Their music enfolds me as I stroll

Are you watching the sky?
The universe is a grand show
If I tip forward would I fly?
Fingertips reach, catching the flow

You see what I see
Perhaps you dream the same dream
Of all the lives that we could be
Ah, but things are not as they seem

So, in darkness I lay on still warm earth
Soft grass beneath open palm
A being of infinite worth
I breath, and I am calm.

Nostalgia

Standard

“All my life
My heart has sought
A thing I cannot name”

Hello again, old friend
Carrying with you that old ache,
Like a rheumatism

Yes,
I recognize you, unkind familiar,
as you gnaw at my belly.
My throat clenches and my heart quickens.

Longing,
Like a scorching lava
Oozing through my veins.
What is it, this desire that pulls
At platinum threads?

I thrash and scream
And it’s a silent roar
Through my confused mind.

You are never kind enough
to enlighten,
Old friend.

In the barren halls of my thoughts,
One word echos:

Something…
Something…
Something…

What you are just floats,
as always,
on the cusp of consciousness.
You flit out of the reach
Of my groaning attempts at capture.

Yes,
Hello again, old friend.
You cabalistic ghost.
You offer no explanation,
and no comfort.

I’m forever alone with the sense of an unwitnessed miracle,
And a happiness left unfulfilled.

Powerless, I wrap my arms around my aching heart.
The echo comes as a tidal wave,
beating me as it crashes.
And so,
Bruised, bloodied, scarred,
I cling to that one word as an anchor

Something…
Something…
Something…
