Pieces

Standard

If they ask you about me,
Tell them
“She was the only girl
Who loved me with honesty,
And I broke her.”

I have loved you
And all of your pieces
If I could
I would fold them
Within the silk
Of my own flesh

I would carry your tears
Within the wells
Of these open palms
Saving every single
Sadness
And moment of joy

I have loved you
With every aching piece
Of this soul
And my tears, they fall
Lonely
To the ground.

As The Willow Lives

Standard

If I lived
As the willow lives
I’d fling golden tresses
Into the wind
And send deep roots
Through all the earth
To touch and embrace
Both love and pain

If I lived
As the willow lives
I’d stretch Moon silvered arms
And pluck the stars
Weaving them with great care
Around each bloom and leaf
And so, adorned with the light
I would wait for you

If I lived
As the willow lives
I’d love you, with a passion
Both deep and high
I’d be your shade and home
Your place of sweet rest
Building great cathedrals of my branches
So that, you, may live in the skies.

Alice and The White Rabbit

Standard

2015-02-28 14.57.19
One night, as I slept, I began to dream
That I was Alice in a field of green
And there you were, running by
With your pocket watch, jacket, and tie
I waved to you, “hey, wait for me!”
You rushed on, Can’t wait, I’m late! I can’t miss tea!”
“But I’d like to come along,” I said to you
“Then hurry! Don’t lapse! You’ll be left behind if you do.”
So I followed behind you as fast as I could
Until we reached a thorny black wood.
You gave it no thought as you raced on by
But the thorns tore my clothes and dug in my thigh.
“Hey! Wait for me, I’ve been caught!”
“I have no time to wait! You’ll have to keep up, like it or not!”
I couldn’t catch up so you ran on ahead.
I had nowhere to rest so the thorns were my bed.
Slowly, I freed myself and mended my wound,
And then you came back saying, “time to go, very soon.”
“You must keep up this time.” You began to scold.
“I will try,” I said. “Can you give me something to hold?”
You gave me the tail of your jacket to grasp
As faster and faster the world flew past.
I held on with all my might
Dragging the ground, Eyes closed tight
I slammed into trees
And skinned both my knees
“Can you slow down? I’m losing my hold.”
“I can’t stop here! I’m late and it’s cold!”
Unable to grip, I finally let go
A small, sad figure, lying in the snow.
Then opened my eyes and saw you there
My gaze meeting your resentful stare.
“You should have kept up! Why’d you let go?”
“Now look at you, lazing in snow!”
All I could say to meet your demand
“perhaps, if you’d paused to give me your hand?”

This Demanding Pain

Standard

“That’s the thing about pain, it demands to be felt.”

Yes, pain demands to be felt
An inferno arising from within
Refuses to be ignored
No point in placation

I have learned to let tears fall
Wherever they may
And I will feel no shame
In my submission
I give myself over to the tidal wave

Total surrender
As up up up…I’m carried
Then, reaching the crest, I’m pushed
Not over, but back
To fall and crash

Churned with the rocks and shells
I become smooth
Baptized in the salt of the seas
I’m one with the water
And the breeze

From below now calm tides
I see the brilliant dawn
Violently
I break the surface
Breathing life in sobbing gulps

Ivory wings unfurl
And I begin to rise
Wait and you will see
The dawn within my eyes.

Someplace Beautiful

Standard

“Warm me
Like sunlight
And soothe me
Like rain.
Burn me
With passion
And steal away
The pain.”

Spring is peeking around the corner
Can you see her?
There may still be cold days
But we live in the moment,
You and I,
Come Jupiter
And put your hand in mine
I’ll keep you warm
Even when spring is hard to find.

Heartlines

Standard

“In Japan
Broken objects
Are often repaired with gold.
The flaw is seen
As a unique piece
Of the object’s history,
Which adds to it’s beauty.
Consider this
When you feel broken.”

How beautiful your flaws are to me
Lovely, the scars cleaved by time
I will line your mistakes with gold,
my love
No need to hide
I adore your golden threads
As they illuminate
What once lay shattered
Taste and savor the perfection
Of every moment
Don’t dwell in what was
Give no thought to what will be
One breath to the next is all we have
Not even that is a promise
And so our mended brokenness
Shall brightly glow
Come darling
Etch your own line of gold
Into the ivory of my skin
Add your own song
To the chorus of my sin.

Twilight Journey

Standard

There must be about a
Million ways to let
Yourself be destroyed
But then there is love,
And I think tonight
I am in the mood to break
Apart and let myself
Be consumed by all the
Things I know I would
Never be able to
Recover from.”

I breath you
as I walk dark paths
warm honeysuckle breezes
clothe my bare skin
like no silk would dare to try

to the river I go
trailing fingers over rough pine bark
as I pass
they hum with my caress
and cicadas sing a wedding song
a promise of a happy marriage
Between the summer night
and my blue twilight dreams

I love the night
in all her exciting potential
so I follow the thrum of distant falls
ready for all uncertain gifts
be they good or bad
I will delight.
