Innocence and The Ghost

Standard

I dreamt of a little blonde thing
With the ocean in her eyes
I followed and heard her sing
Off key notes drifting in skies

She didn’t seem to care who heard
It was her gift to the trees
Where she perched with the birds
Tangled hair and skinned knees

I watched as if trapped in a slow haze
Her world, so vivid, even at night
In memory it’s all just a daze
Of sweet smelling fields, golden and bright

I watched as she skipped through winding creeks
And bare feet flew over red dirt paths
Outside her kingdom they knew her as meek
Here, even the breeze echoed her laugh

I trailed the sound of her joy
As ethereal as the light on her hair
A moment I’d never destroy
But suddenly she turned and saw me there

Like a mirror in a funhouse, we faced
It was a strange version of herself she viewed
Innocence met tired eyes and lines of sorrow traced
Innocence rejected reality, “I will never be you!”

Pieces

Standard

If they ask you about me,
Tell them
“She was the only girl
Who loved me with honesty,
And I broke her.”

I have loved you
And all of your pieces
If I could
I would fold them
Within the silk
Of my own flesh

I would carry your tears
Within the wells
Of these open palms
Saving every single
Sadness
And moment of joy

I have loved you
With every aching piece
Of this soul
And my tears, they fall
Lonely
To the ground.

Even Now

Standard

Still I can taste you, even now—
You, who led me to lower worlds
You, who are the origin of my tears
You—
Who made me uniquely vulnerable.”

You love
Who are the Jupiter of
My universe

You, who baptize these lies
From my flesh with your fingers
And cleanse me with your gaze

You are the thrum of my blood
And my breath
The axis mundi of my passion

It is you…
Only you
Who will bring me to my knees.

Depths

Standard

“And the ocean taught her how to
Drown in all the things bigger than
Herself.
The ocean loved her
And knew everything that made her.
And every time she’d walk to the shore,
She’d smile at the ocean
Because the waves
Told her story.”

I look into the ocean
Feeling it’s depths
Echo
In the corners of my soul

It’s trails
Have been called fathomless
I alone know them well
I walk them often
Over the treacherous
Slopes
Of my own mind

My depths call to yours
Jupiter
Meet me at the shore
Under a cherry blossom tree
I’ll ring you with
A garland of love
And baptize you
In the sea.

I’ll be in the Air

Standard

“I will never
Be a morning person,
For the moon and I
Are much too in love.”

Will the words of our lives
One day enrobe
The stones of our graves?
No.
Our pages will be
The memorials of our lives
Let others pause
Or simply pass us by
Some will take for granted
Our souls laid bare
But I
I’m beckoned by the moon
And I’ll be in the air

A Creature of Flight

Standard

“She was broken from moment to moment, watching her world collide she felt lost inside herself. She fell apart for a passion that flamed beneath her. She waited and died a hundred times, it dripped from her pores. The moment she let go, she soared over the stillness like the star she was born to be.”

And I was a creature of flight
Dancer in realms of air
Beloved of clouds and light
Silken feathers, golden and fair

And I was a creature both violent and free
Hurricane breath with tsunami eyes
Daughter of the tempest breeze
Rainbow phoenix in blazing skies

And I was a creature of the stars
Infinitesimal child of night
Pulled along the dust trails of Mars
For all was beautiful within my sight.

As The Willow Lives

Standard

If I lived
As the willow lives
I’d fling golden tresses
Into the wind
And send deep roots
Through all the earth
To touch and embrace
Both love and pain

If I lived
As the willow lives
I’d stretch Moon silvered arms
And pluck the stars
Weaving them with great care
Around each bloom and leaf
And so, adorned with the light
I would wait for you

If I lived
As the willow lives
I’d love you, with a passion
Both deep and high
I’d be your shade and home
Your place of sweet rest
Building great cathedrals of my branches
So that, you, may live in the skies.
